Hesperia wildlife control tip of the month:

How to keep raccoons out from under a shed or porch

A raccoon that lives under the deck or in a porch from January-September. These are the months of the years wherein you must check these places for a possible break in from the mother raccoon with the babies. You must always be very careful because you do not want the pups to be orphan and die under the shed or porch and rot there. The raccoons are good mothers and they will move the babies to a new place when they are scared, thus expelling a mother raccoon will always take the risk that she may abandon Hesperia animal control or be parted from her pups.

How to keep them out?
1) Be patient
Your primary choice is to do nothing yet. Raccoons may live underneath the ground dens for a short span of time. The raccoon pups are quite independently by the end of summertime, when they leave the den and scatter from their Hesperia pest control family. The mother raccoon will move the baby between the den while the nesting season is ongoing, she might also leave on her own. If you can wait until the babies are old enough, you can close off the entry point to prevent the other raccoons from using the Hesperia wildlife removal shed later on.

2) Humane pestering
The mother raccoon will live under the deck or shed, because it is a dark, safe and quiet haven for her and for the babies. If you can make the place bright and noisy, it will not be a safe place for them and they will be convinced that this place is not meant for them. All of the Hesperia animal trapping methods must be placed closely as much as possible to the entrance of the porch, so the mother raccoon cannot neglect them when she comes or when she goes.

You can use bright lights at the entrance den and be sure it is fire safe. Raccoons are normally nocturnal and they do not wish to stay in a well-lighted home. You can also tune in the radio and then place it nearby the den. The music will not be meaningful for them, but the human sounds will make them feel threatened. Hesperia exterminator ammonia is said to also help in deterring raccoons, but that is not a guarantee just like any other repellents. But you can try and see if it will be effective even just for a while. You must be patient, because you cannot make them leave right away, you must wait for 2-3 days before they leave.
